He was born on the old Ward homestead between Chula and Farmersville, where his parents settled on coming from Kentucky to Missouri. He was the seventh child of a family of twelve children, three of whom preceded him in death. He was converted to the Presbyterian church when a boy. He was married to Edna B. Walkup, November 22, 1906.
He spent all of his life in the Chula and Wheeling neighborhoods and all of it in Livingston County, except a few years when he was first married when he lived over the line in Linn County. He was a rural mail carrier out of Chula for some years and later manager of the Wheeling Farmers Store for a time. He was an active member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodges for more than 25 years. One of the things he enjoyed most in life was band music. He belonged to a number of different band organizations during his lifetime.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Edna B. Ward; six sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Eva Perrins of Pond Creek, Okla., Mrs. Belle Pray of Farmersville, Mrs. Lizzie Pray of Polson, Mont., Mrs. Lillie Smith of Polson, Mont., Mrs. Lena Stone of Laredo, Mo., Miss Aldine Ward of Pond Creek, Okla., W. Grant Ward of Caldwell, Idaho and James O. Ward of Farmersville, Mo.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was a man of his word and whatever he did, he took pride in doing it well. He was a kind and loving husband, and loyal and faithful to his friends.” The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, February 2, 1937
