COLORADO CITY – Mae P. Montague, age 91, entered the gates of heaven on November 29th, 2016.
Mae was born in Frost and spent her early years in various areas of Texas. At 14 the family moved to El Cajon, California where she met her husband, Tom. They lived in both the El Cajon and Colorado City areas over the next 40 years. They also lived in Washington state many years before moving to Colorado City in 1998. During Mae’s years in El Cajon she worked as a nurse in nursing homes and for a doctor’s office in Lakeside, California. While in Washington , Mae began selling pies to local restaurants. In Colorado City, she became known as “the Pie Lady” selling pies via radio advertising, word of mouth, private people, and at Fuller Foods.
Mae is survived by her two sons, Gene and wife Kim Montague of Alma, Arkansas and Robert and wife Cherry Montague of Renton, Washington; two brothers, Gilbert and Marie Chaney, Floyd and Yvette Chaney, both of Colorado City; six grandchildren, Lisa, Duane and Doug in Washington, Lori and Sandra in California and Debbie in Montana; 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on February 25, 2017 at the First Baptist Church on Chestnut Street in Colorado City to honor Mae Montague and her husband, Tom, who died on September 23rd, 2007.
Memorial donations can be made in Mae’s name to Mitchell County Nursing & Rehab Center, or to First Baptist Church, both of Colorado City.
