She retired from Saint Joseph Hospital after fifteen years of service. Following retirement, she and Ed became foster parents sharing their home with 78 children over the years.
Five of the children became permanent members of their family. She enjoyed her role as a foster parent helping to shape the lives of so many children.
Wanda loved to travel with her family. Disney, Jamaica, and Hawaii were some very memorable place they traveled. One summer the whole family went to the Michigan Dunes to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. If you ask the grand-children, they will tell you all about their summer trips to the beach club.
She was a member of the Main St. Baptist Church of Braidwood. She shared her faith by serving a snack or a meal to the young people of Braidwood who would stop by to visit her sons. She never refused anyone food who came by, knowing they may have not eaten that day.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Edward T. Mabe. They were married 66 years and have had a wonderful life filled with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Also surviving are 5 sons; Edward Thomas Mabe Jr., Jessie Edward Mabe, Kevin Edward Mabe, Victor Mabe, and Charles Edward Mabe; 4 daughters, Tommy Sue (Earnest) Knight, Elizabeth Christine Sheeley, Mary Medows, Tiffany Marie Baughman; one brother James Perry (Judy) Lowe, two sisters Nell Mutter, Bessie Reese. She was blessed by her children with 9 granddaughters and 6 grandsons, 17 great granddaughters, 23 great grandsons, 6 great great granddaughters, and 6 great great grandsons.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, William Perry Lowe, Ethel Gambrill; her brother, William Perry Lowe, Jr. her sisters, Frances White, Lena (Delbert) Babb, Willia (Chuck) Poltes, Gladys (Donald) Absher; her great granddaughter, and her 2 great great grandsons; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
