William E. "Mr. Bill" Broughton, 58, of Flatwoods, Ky., husband of Bonnie Patrick Broughton, died Friday morning in King's Daughters Medical Center following a short illness.
Bill was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late Russell Broughton and Billie Daniels Broughton of Westwood, Ky.
He was a retired dispatch analyst with Marathon Petroleum and was a former coach and vice president in the Boyd County Little League Association. He was past president and former secretary of the Boyd County Optimist Club, where he coached girls basketball and softball, and also coached football and was an umpire and referee. It was during the time spent with these athletic youngsters that he was given the name "Mr. Bill."
Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two sons, William Thomas Broughton of Findlay, Ohio, and Jason Earl Broughton and special daughter-in-law, Samantha of Ashland, Ky.; two daughters, Patricia Kay Blankenship of King, N.C., and Anna Jo Boyd and special son-in-law, William Eric of Ashland; a brother, Lloyd Broughton and wife Barbara of Westwood; six grandchildren, Jessica Kay, Shelby Ranae, Larisa Kay, Jennifer, Dalton Taylor and Charlee Jo; and a great-grandson, Andrew Taylor.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor James R. Daniels, Pastor Curtis Daniels and the Rev. Clyde Newman. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery in Westwood.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
