From Don Blauvelt
"Confusion in printed genealogies exist regarding the identity of the wife of Capt. Nathaniel Talcott of Glastonbury, Conn. The Hollister Genealogy, by Lafayette W. Case, claims that Nathaniel Talcott's wife was Elizabeth Pitkin, whereas Stiles in his Ancient Wethersfield (2:570) claims she was Elizabeth Robbins, dau. of Capt. Joshua Robbins, Sr. of Wethersfield. The Robbins-Talcott marriage does not appear in the Wethersfield, Conn. vital records because the marriage took place at Glastonbury. Unfortunately, the marriage record does not include the maiden name of Nathaniel's wife Elizabeth. In addition, Stiles in his separate Ancient Wethersfield outline of the Nathaniel Talcott family at Glastonbury does not include the maiden name of wife Elizabeth. Adding to this confusion is an incorrect inscription of Elizabeth (Robbins) Talcott's gravestone.

In part, this confusion is solved by the recorded will of Elizabeth's father Joshua Robbins dated Mar. 26, 1730 at Wethersfield:

• Also, my will is that my five daughters, vizt., Elizabeth the wife of Nathaniel Talcott, Hannah the wife of Joseph Wells, Mary the wife of Joseph Treat, Abigail the wife of Silas Belden, and Comfort the wife of John Coleman, shall each of them have £150 of my personal estate with what each of them have already received,...

There is no record that provides either Nathaniel Talcott or his wife Elizabeth Robbins with a prior marriage.

On its face Elizabeth (Robbins) Talcott's gravestone understates her age at death by one year. According to Elizabeth's recorded date of birth (Dec. 27, 1684) in the Wethersfield vital records, on the day Elizabeth died she was then 76 years old, and Ætatis (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of her Age) 77, not 76 as inscribed. Until the early 1800s, virtually all gravestones throughout North America used the Latin term Ætatis to state a person's age at death, which is one year greater than a person's chronological age."
