Vernal Wayne Thompson, 100, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at his home.

He was born December 2, 1908 in Roy, Utah to Horace Harvey and Mary Matilda Hardy Thompson.

On October 16, 1929, Vern married Cleone Heslop in Salt Lake City. They were later divorced. He married Wanda L. Beck on October 31, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later divorced. Vern married Melva H. Bradshaw on January 26, 1990 in Roy, Utah.

He was a member of the LDS Church where he served as a Young Men''s Counselor, in the Presidency of the Seventies in the old Roy Ward and Chairman of the Finance Committee in the Roy 6th Ward.

Vern was a sub-divider and developer of Donita and HalVern Park subdivisions and North Crest Mobile Home Park. He served as the first Town Marshal in Roy, first Water Superintendent, Weber County Sheriff''s Department, Weber County Public Works Director, Roy City Councilman, Roy Water Conservancy District Manager and board member. He was also a member of the Roy Chamber of Commerce, Roy Kiwanis Club, Charter Member of the Weber County Sherriff''s Mounted Posse, past President and founding member of the Utah Quarter Horse Association and Director of the American Quarter Horse Association.

He was a breeder, owner, and trainer of outstanding horses all of his life.

Vern is survived by his wife, Melva H. Thompson, Roy; three sons, V. Glen Thompson, Littleton, CO; Wayne L. (Becky) Thompson, Pleasant View; T. Lee (Suzanne) Thompson, Farr West; three daughters, Donna (Paul) Perkins, Farmersville, TX; Nelda T. Meenderink, Roy; Anita Thompson, Roy; a step-son, Gary Bradshaw, Preston, ID; two step-daughters, Lorene Koller, Logan; Earlene Gallegos, Uintah; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, five sisters, two daughters, June Thompson and Lisa Thompson and a step-son, Larry Beck.

The family wishes to express many thanks to Access Hospice, especially Ina Marcus, Julie Wilson and Mike Rigby.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
