Born 1877 (SS info) or 1878 (WWI registration) or 1880 (death certificate)! to William and Sophronia (Williams) Settlemier near Prairie City, OR-believe the family was gold mining & farming at the time. He had 6 sisters who survived to adulthood: Marian Evangeline (Mary), Alice Mary, Genevieve (Jenny) Maud, Bessie, Hattie Mary, and Fay Estella.
Then they moved to Arlington, OR-where they farmed & Bert continued to run, after his parents retired to Milwaukie, OR in the early 1900's. He moved near Heppner in 1938 (per death certificate) where he was a hired hand-farming. Per death certificate & all known records he was never married.
He died of bladder cancer, which spread to the liver.
Saw his obituary in the Heppner, Gazette-which listed this death date & burial place (also his death certificate). Only his sisters Alice & Fay were still living.
Confirmed he is buried here with the cemetery- but he has no marker.
He was my great grandmother's brother.
