Born to the union of Italian immigrants Fernando Vozza and Rafaela Palermo Vozza in Old Morenci, then part of Graham County, Arizona Territory, Nancy was the sixth child of eleven children. Nancy's siblings were Clorinda Hortencia, Asunta (Susie), Herminia (Erminia), Maria Clunia, Rosa Frances, Julia Romero, Theresa Ermelinda, Josephine (Hudson), John Fernando, and Francisca.

On the 17th day of June in 1939, Nancy L. Wood married Hayden Henry Wood in the old mining town of Morenci, Arizona and to this union was born Sheila Ann (Hartner).
