Enlisted August 19, 1862, as private in Company B, 68th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry, during the Civil War. Cephas was killed in the battle of Chickamauga.

On Feb. 23, 1864, Sidney C. King and his siblings then living in Indiana filed suit in Howard Co., IN, regarding 160 acres purchased by their younger siblings, Peter B. King and Cephas C. King, in Howard County, Peter having died on 4 Jun 1863, and Cephas having died on 19 Sep 1863, both having died unmarried and intestate.
