The remains of Frederick Sylvester of Johnson, a former resident of Stowe, were brought here and the funeral was held at the Congregational Church, conducted by the Rev. Lemuel Davis Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Sylvester was about 71 years of age. He is survived by his wife Ellen M. (Decell), and several children, among the Mrs. Bert Newcity of Stowe.
Note:Frederick and Ellen had two small children who died December 1877 from diphtheria while living in Stowe. Hattie (1874-1877) & Frederick Jr (1871-1877). There is a possibility they are buried here also.
Joseph Ferdinand Sylvestre was baptized on 30 May 1846 at St-Michel, Sherbrooke, Quebec, born on 28 Mar 1846, son of Alexis Sylvestre and Marie Caille. (Frederick was likely born at home in Eaton, though records vary stating place of birth was Lenoxville or Bury (incorrectly documented at Barre, P.Q. on his death record). Fred J. Sylvester is the name Ferdinand used while living in the States.
