Ruby Katherine Long, 96, of Elkhart, died Thursday, November 17, 2016, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart. The Elkhart native was born January 26, 1920 to Arnold F. and Tillie (Dryer) Steller, who have both preceded her in death. Ruby enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Ruby is survived by her sons, David E. Whiteman of Bristol and Charles E. (Wanda) Whiteman of South Bend; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Verl Steller of Wabash, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Charles Whiteman, John Hessler, and Harris E. Long; her longtime companion, Howard Dick; son Richard Whiteman; one brother and two sisters. Family and friends will be received on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 6-8 PM at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service in Ruby’s honor will be Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 2 PM at the funeral home with interment following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
