Mr. Donald W. Eckert passed away peacefully at home in Zimmerman, MN on the 17th of June 2016 at the age of 85.

Donald is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Dale (Kathy) Eckert, Jeff Eckert, Vicki (Brad) Duax, Rochelle (Paul) Weidenbach, Herbie Eckert, and Rob Eckert; siblings, Eldon (Jean) Eckert, LaVern (Joann) Eckert, Edwin (Barb) Eckert; sister-in-law, Sharon Eckert. He is preceded in death by parents, Herman and Mary (Friese) Eckert; brother, Lloyd Eckert; sister, Lillian Sommers.

Donald was born on the 4th of August 1930 in Sebeka, MN to Herman and Mary Eckert. He married Carol Neuerburg on October 21st, 1952. While residing in Rogers, MN he worked as a heavy equipment operator for 25 years before retiring to his lake home in Motley, MN. For the past 4 years they resided in Zimmerman, MN. Over the years, they had two children, adopted 4 children and took care of 29 foster children.

Don served 2 years in the U.S. Army, including a stint in the Korean War. He spent many years in a polka band with his siblings and enjoyed playing many instruments. He had a love for old farm windmills, and socializing. He volunteered for many years playing music at nursing homes and at the church. He won a Volunteer of the Year award at Guardian Angels for 100 hours of service in a year. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life is scheduled on Sunday June 26th, 2016 at Zimmerman Community Church, 12567-5th Ave, Zimmerman, MN. Gathering at 1:00 p.m., with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. and lunch to follow. Pastor Wendy Cunningham will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Donald's life.
