Louden Junior Gatton (1920-2003)
BUNKER HILL Louden Junior Gatton, 83, Bunker Hill, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at the Wilson Nursing Home. Mr. Gatton was born Aug. 22, 1920, at Gravette, Ark., to Louden Deison and Jennie Fuller Gatton. He was reared in the Ellinwood area and worked there before entering the U.S. Army in 1942 during World War II. He served in Germany with the 95th Infantry Division and was seriously wounded, receiving the Purple Heart. He was discharged after nine months of hospitalization. He moved to Bunker Hill in 1947, where he was a farmer-stockman with oil interests. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Russell; a life member of VFW Post 6240, Russell and a former member of the Bunker Hill Lions Club who served on the Centerview School Board and Center Township Board. He married Zella Mae Parker May 23, 1947. She died in 1980. He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, R.D., Joe and Jesse Gatton; and an infant sister, Bessie Gatton. Survivors include two sons, Steven Gatton and wife Pam of Longview, Texas, and Lee Gatton and wife Beverly of Overland Park; a daughter, Lila Mae Abercrombie and husband Fred of Wilson; a special family friend, Betty Ehrlich of Russell; and five grandchildren. The funeral is 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at the St. John Lutheran Church, the Rev. Henry J. Hartman officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Cross Plains Cemetery.
