On Thursday, November 17th, Rick Thomas went to be with our Lord God. Rick was the owner of Newland Small Engine Repair, where he worked hard with mower tech, Mike, to serve his customers.
He had been an airplane pilot, tractor and trailer and heavy equipment owner and operator. Most of all, he had always been a wonderful friend and family man. He touched many lives in his short time here.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gene and Rosa Winters Thomas and an infant sister, Clara Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Molly Clawson Thomas; brother, Ray Thomas and wife, Deborah, of Newland; sister, Janie Duncan and husband, Brynne, of Spruce Pine; sons: Jeremy Thomas of Juniper, FL and David Stewart and wife, Christy, of Plumtree; step-children: Steven Tolley and wife, Natasha, of Elizabethton, TN, Aron Tolley of Kansas and Matisha Willis and husband, Rob, of Elizabethton, TN and four grandchildren: Skylar Tolley, Parker Tolley, Kayden Land and Alexis Jones. Numerous other family members and a host of friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Oak Grove Baptist Church and will be announced. Burial will follow in the AA & Shoner Johnson Cemetery off of Old Spanish Oak Road.
