Estelle M. Bradford-Dickey, 84, of Davenport, FL went to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness.
She was born December 14, 1931 in Milton, Massachusetts to Perley C. and Bertha Macdonald.
In 1949 she received a music scholarship to Boston College for piano. She gave it up in 1951 to marry Jesse Bradford and together they had five children.
Estelle was a member of Neptune Baptist Church in Neptune Beach, Florida. She was a Sunday School teacher and played the piano part time. She also enjoyed playing the piano at home.
She always put her children first and at times worked three jobs to accomplish this.
She had an open door policy with all the neighborhood children. If you didn’t tear up the house and went home before the streetlight came on you were welcome. She always had an extra plate of food for anyone wanting to stay late, with their mother’s permission, of course.
When her first husband died in 1977 Estelle, at 46 years old, went back to college at the University of North Florida and received her Bachelor Degree in Criminology, minoring in Psychology. All her classmates called her mom as she was the oldest and treated them all like they were her children.
She remarried in 2004 to Robert Dickey and moved to Davenport, Florida where they were close to Disney World and could spoil their grandchildren. Bob and Estelle were together 33 years. They were avid fans of the Orlando Magic basketball team.
Besides her parents and her first husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Brett Lane Bradford; two daughters-in-law, Anne Bradford and Suzy Bradford; and a grandson, Jesse Ray Bradford.
Surviving are her husband Robert Dickey; three sons and daughter-in-law, Scott Bradford, Mark and Gladys Bradford, and Bruce Bradford; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheyenne and Michael Milner; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a nephew; numerous nieces, grand nephews and nieces; and friends that knew her as mom.
The viewing will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18th at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19th at the funeral home. In honor and celebration of Estelle’s life a Video Tribute will be shown. The committal will follow at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19th at H. Warren Smith Cemetery in Jacksonville Beach. Pastor Jason Stephens will officiate.
