Joel Thompson Kimberlin came to Missouri from Scott Co., Ind. as a young man around 1868. He met Victoria Ann Farmer, fell in love, but did not marry her due to Victoria's father's objections. He returned to Nabb, Ind., opened a store, and met Amanda Vest and married her in 1878. They had five be children, then moved to Auburn, Mo. and opened a store there. After her last child, Amanda became ill with cancer of the breast and finally returned to Nabb, Ind. where she died. A sister-in-law temporarily kept two children. Joel moved back to Auburn Mo., reopened his store, and rekindled his love affair with Victoria Ann and married her. At her father's insistence they moved to Middletown, Mo. and experienced a very unhappy married life because of her father's interference. To keep from killing his wife's father, Joel returned to Nabb, Ind. alone. Victoria remained in Middletown under her father's influence. She died three years later after the separation from Joel.
