John Frederick Brode, 66, of 325 Greene Street, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late John C. and Ella (Fitzgerald) Brode. He was employed as a machinist helper at the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and International Brotherhood of Machinists Helpers. Surviving are his widow, Gertrude C. (Green) Brode; two sons, William F. and Frankin D. Brode, city; a daughter, Mrs. Ella P. Stein, El Toro; a sister, Miss Angela Brode, city, and six grandchildren. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. CUMBERLAND — John Michael Brode, 78, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home. Born May 7, 1932 in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Mary M. (Nelson) Brode. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, James E., Charles H., Harry E.; and one sister, Gertrude. Surviving are two brothers, Howard V. Brode and wife Winnie, Cumberland, Walter S. "Jack" Brode and wife Gloria Jean, Richmond, Va. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. The body was donated to the Anatomy Board of Maryland. There will be no services at this time.
