Long Illness Claims Blaine Steed
Blaine R. Steed, 68, 1275 E. 820 N., Provo, died this morning at his home of Cancer.
He was born Oct. 26, 1896 in Farmington, a son of David Franklin and Anne Robinson Steed. He married Hortense Gordon on Aug. 29, 1923 in the Salt Lake Temple.
He moved with his parents to Alberta, Canada as a child and later returned to Farmington. He filled an LDS mission to New Zealand from 1914 to 1917. Mr. Steel joined the Los Angeles Police force in 1923 where he served for 32 years. For 15 years he was captain of the department's detectives. He served as secretary and director of Weiser Lock Co. of South Gate, Calif., for 12 years.
For 23 years he served on the High Council of the South Los Angeles Stake and was an active member of the LDS Church. He was bishop of the Westchester Ward for three years and was an active temple worker.
Mr. Steed was a member of the South Gate Chamber of Commerce.
For the past two months he had been residing in Provo.
Surviving are his widow, Provo; two sons and two daughters, Blaine G. Steed, Provo; David L. Steed, Great Falls, Mont.;Mrs. Wayne I. (Barbara) Marker, Huntsville, Ala.; Mrs. Mark E. (Joyce) Anderson, Bellview, Utah; 19 grandchildren; two brothers and six sisters, Grant R. Steed, Gardena, Calif.; Eugene Steed, Salem, Ore.; Mrs. Alta Beacham, Mt. Shasta, Ore.; Mrs. Lucy Troubridge, Clearfield; Mrs. Faye Howardth, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lavona Allred, Yucipa, Calif.; Mrs. Doris Watkins, Sacramento, Calif.
Funeral services will be held in the Gardena Second Ward Chapel on Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Bishop Jolley officiating. Interment will be in the Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, Calif.
