Funeral will be Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
"Our Papa," was born March 8, 1934, in Decatur to William G. Breeding and Gladys Mote Breeding. He was gifted in basketball and baseball. He graduated from Howard College, now Samford University, in 1959.
Marve signed with the Baltimore Orioles and made a run for the American League Pennant in 1960. He was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers when they won the World Series in 1963. He was inducted into the first group of the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame and was also inducted into the Samford University Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. A bronze plaque was placed with his name in the arch of the stadium.
Once Marve retired from baseball, he was a manufacturer's representative for many years and opened his own manufacturing business in 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Gee Gee Breeding; one daughter, Marla Breeding Dean of Athens; two sons, Marve Dudley Breeding of Birmingham and Brad Breeding of Decatur; one sister, Helen Breeding Orick of Decatur; one nephew, Ben Poole of Huntsville; six beloved grandchildren; Bill and Ginny Singer of Osprey, Fla.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
