Ossian, Ia., March 21 –Special: The funeral of Mrs. Nathaniel Banning was held Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Oswald Sandbach of Decorah officiated, holding services from the old home church in Centennial, southeast of Ossian, with burial in the Centennial Cemetery.

Miss Julia Mathilda White was born in Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada, July 7, 1857, and came west to Iowa with her parents when a little girl of 11 years. They settled on a farm in Winneshiek County, southeast of Decorah. She married Nathaniel Banning of Ossian, Dec.25, 1870. They moved to Bridgewater, S. D., in 1901, settling on their farm near Canistota, where she lived ever since. She died there March 16, leaving to mourn her loss her husband, two daughters, Mrs. William Spinner of Miller S. D., and Mrs. F. C. Ondrozeck of Canistota. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, one sister and three brothers.

The biographical information has a number of errors. The most significant of which is she could not have married Nathaniel Banning in 1870. She would have only been 13 then. Plus, Nathaniel married Debra Cary in 1871, who died in 1872. The earliest Julia could have married Nathaniel would have been following the death of Debra Cary, by which time Julia would have been 15. Based upon the birth of her children, it may have been later.

Other typo errors. Where it talks about her surviving children, Mrs. F. C. Enderogeck of Conistata, should have said Mrs. F. C. Ondrozeck of Canistota. Canistota is also misspelled elsewhere.
