After William's death Catharine married Alexander Washington Ward. It appears they had twin sons, Edward and Thomas Ward in 1871. By 1880, she is divorced and the boys are enumerated with the Merrick surname. Her mother Harriet Freeman is also in the household. I have not found Edward after the 1880 census, but Thomas continued using the Merrick surname throughout his life.
I have not found a burial for Catharine in Lawrence or Dade County, perhaps she was buried in an unmarked grave in the family graveyard near William, Arena, and grandson William Kirk Masters.
