Sarah Maria Frazier, Oldest Resident of Cayuga, Dead at 92
Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Frazier, oldest resident of Cayuga, who died at her home at 1:45 o'clock Monday morning were held from the Christian Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. O.W. McGaughey of Veedersburg officiating. Burial was a the Thomas Cemetery, with Watsons in charge.
Obit - Sarah Maria, the daughter of Silas and Catherine Corson Jones, was born Sept 29, 1849, some four miles west of Newport, Ind., and departed this life July 27, 1942, after spending 92 years, 10 months and 28 days among us. In March preceding her birth her father was taken ill while on the way to the old mill of Eugene and died at the Shelby home that used to stand near Army Ford. When three years old with her mother and sister she accompanied her grandparents to Red Oak, Ia. It took seven weeks to make the trip in a covered wagon. Some ten years later she returned to Indiana and her old home where she met John Frazier and to whom she was married April 29, 1863. Shortly after they returned to Red Oak. After living there some 11 years they returned again to Newport and later moved to Cayuga where she lived until her death. To John and Maria Frazier six children were born; Frank, Nathan, Flora, Thomas and Catherine at Red Oak and Albert at Newport. Of these children Thomas of Perrysville, Ind., Flora Stewart of Newport and Alber of Danville, Ill., remain. Her husband died in 1920. She is also survivied by Vorhis Jones of Vermillion township, a half-brother; Mollie Miller Cummins of Danville, Ill., a niece; 12 grand children, 23 great grand children and 14 great great grandchildren. For amny years Mrs. Frazier was a member of the Christian Church, where she took an active part when able. She was well know for her industry, patience and kindness, her only complaint in recent years being she could not do as much as she used to.
