He gave his heart to the Lord in December 1935 and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He remained faithful to the end, although not without trials and failures.
As a young man, he served as an alternative service worker during World War II in the forestry division and later in coal mining.
On May 28, 1944, he was married to Helen Froese, sharing joys and sorrows for forty-two years. They lived in Kleefeld all their years, except from the spring of 1946 to the fall of 1948, when they resided in Sinclair, Manitoba. They farmed most of their lives and were caretakers of the church for twenty-five years.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his beloved wife, Helen, of Kleefeld, Manitoba; three daughters and one son: Delia and husband Albert Pott of Nestor Falls, Ontario; Susan and husband Lucien Labelle of Ste. Pierre, Manitoba; Katherine and husband Robert Penner of Flin Flon, Manitoba; David and wife Mary of Kleefeld, Manitoba; four grandchildren; three brothers; and three sisters, besides nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on June 11, 1986, at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Kleefeld, Manitoba. Ministers Donald Toews and Alva Froese officiated. Burial was in the local cemetery.
