George Zed Cordonnier, Sr., St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the young age of 96 years after being ill for a short time.

Mr. Cordonnier was born on Sept. 8, 1912, in Doniphan County, Kan., to Zedouk "Zed" Cordonnier and Mary Elizabeth Shellhorn.

He married Dorothy Mae Dever on Jan. 10, 1932.

To this union there was six sons born.

George was Superintendent of Streets for the City of St. Joseph from the early 1940s until retiring in 1979. Working for the city was a big part of George 's life. He could tell you anything about the streets and sewer departments that you needed to know. In later years, he also was a 101 Union operator for heavy equipment.

In his spare time, he was on the Missouri River fishing, which he loved to do and had been doing most of his life.

The rest of his spare time was spent on politics, which he was involved with the democratic party. George's father, "Zed" also was well-known for being involved in the democratic party in St. Joseph.

George was a wonderful and intelligent man that will be truly missed by family and friends.

Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph.
