Peggy Burton Rich, 74, of 602 Ridgecrest Drive, Clemson, S.C., local historian and genealogist, died Thursday, May 13, 1999. She was a native of Roanoke, Va. and the daughter of the late Marcellus Fenton and Bess Graham Burton. She attended the University of Alabama and Radford College, Women's Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. She was the author of several books and numerous articles on local history and genealogy. She initiated and taught classes at Tri County Technical College and worked as a chemist in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on the first atomic bomb. She was co-president of Old Stone Church Commission, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, Linvil Gene Rich of the home; son, Graham Watkins Rich of Spartanburg,; daughter-in-law, Margaret Roper Rich of Seneca; sister, Doris Burton Smith and brother-in-law, William C. Smith of Christsiansburg, Va.; granddaughter, Diana Lynn Rich of Seneca. She was predeceased by a son, Linvil Burton Rich. Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Old Stone Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Old Stone Church Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1485, Clemson, S.C. Arrangements by Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons.
