Jean Nell Peterson, age 101 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 2 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Dave Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Grey Eagle.

Eugenia Nell Carnes was born April 18, 1915 in Royalton, Minnesota to J.N. and Nell (Wakefield) Carnes. After graduating from high school, Jean worked as a dental assistant for her brother-in-law, Dr. Earl McGonagle, DDS and Doctors A.M. and Sidney Watson, M.D. in Royalton. She was united in marriage to Herbert Peterson on August 12, 1943 at the Congressional Church in Little Falls. Jean then worked at Loretta's Dress Shop in Little Falls.

Jean's love of music was evident at a very young age. She was blessed with an ear for music. Humming and singing were a constant throughout each day. Jean loved playing piano and singing in various choirs. She was very involved in her community and spent many years babysitting and caring for children. She enjoyed gardening and canning and taking care of all creatures, great and small. She also enjoyed playing cards, entertaining and spending time with family and friends. She especially loved setting a beautiful table and arranging her floral centerpiece each morning. Jean was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle and was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church in Royalton, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Royalton and Little Falls.

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria (Clinton) Moran of Waite Park; granddaughters, Laura (Jason) Moening of Freeport and Rebecca (Eric) Kingston of Tioga, North Dakota; great-grandchildren, Noah and Grace Moening, Amanda and Julia Kingston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Peterson on July 29, 1987; parents; brother, Norris "Bud" Carnes; and sisters, Edleen McGonagle, Emily Lambert, and Helen "Dee" Tillotson.

Serving as casket bearers will be Laura and Jason Moening and Rebecca and Eric Kingston.
