Robert G. Bates 1928-2012

SIOUX CITY | Robert G. Bates, 84, of Sioux City went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at a Sioux City care facility.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Jesse Haily officiating. There will be no visitation.

Robert was born May 21, 1928 in Sergeant Bluff, the son of Clifford and Christine (Estergaard) Bates. He graduated from Central High School and served in the U.S. Navy.

Robert married Beverly White on Oct. 18, 1948 in Astoria, Oreg. He was a member of the Teamsters union and had worked for Cudahy's Packing Company, Herman Brown for 23 years and then Metz Baking for 13 years.

Robert built his own home and garage and enjoyed camping and fishing. He always looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Canada.

Survivors included his wife, Beverly I. Bates of Sioux City; three daughters, Bonnie C. Bates of Sioux City, Beverly J. Bates Rahme and her husband Ricky Rahme of China Grove, N.C., and Barbara A. Cannon and her husband Charles of New London, N.C.; one granddaughter, Nicole Marie Wells and her husband Steven; and a half brother, Dick Rhubottom.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill; and a sister, Jackie
