Military funeral rites were held last Saturday at the Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids for Edward Rafinski, area farmer and veteran of World War II, who died under his tractor in an accident near his home. Interment was in Olivet Cemetery in Deer River. Rafinski leaves his wife and 6 children.

He was born in Ronneybye [sp], Minnesota on June 5, 1919 and later moved to a farm south of Ball Club with his parents. He was called into service with the first contingent of men who left Grand Rapids in 1941. He was an Infantry scout, having combat action in Guadalcanal and Bouganville. He received the Purple Heart and Infantry Combat medal in addition to the Good Conduct ribbon. Serving with the Infantry, he was a sergeant in the front and served as forward scout.

After being discharged from the service in 1945 he married Mary Nolan and later moved to a farm they had purchased near Bovey. During the past few years he was employed by the Pacific Isles Mining Co. and the York Mine near Nashwauk.
