Susan Kay Welty, 64, of Abingdon, died at her home, Wednesday, October 26, 2016.  She was born February 21, 1952 in Princeton, Missouri, the daughter of James E. and Eunice Kirkpatrick Parkhurst.  She graduated from Morning Sun High School in Morning Sun, Iowa in 1971.  She married Charles Everett Welty Jr. on August 10, 1985 in Morning Sun, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on May 8, 2007.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Susan is survived by two sisters, Donna Hendrickson of Princeton, Missouri and Dianna (Gerald) Kammerer of Morning Sun, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Parkhurst of Burlington, Iowa and Delores Parkhurst of Princeton, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

She was an avid gardener and she enjoyed television and reading.  She liked to attend area auctions and yard sales.  She particularly enjoyed visiting her sister and brother-in-law, nephews and nieces in Morning Sun.  In her earlier years she enjoyed traveling with her mother, especially a trip to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and California.

Cremation was accorded.  Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, Iowa.  Pastor Carl Benge will officiate.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
