SMYRNA - Joseph Harley Anderson, 74, went home to his Lord and Savior on October 23, 2016 in Bangor with his family by his side. He was born May 28, 1942 in Portland, the son of Owen and Ethel (Williamson) Anderson.

Joe grew up with a love for Formula One racing, which he seemed to practice on the streets of Smyrna in the ‘50s with his future bride, Judy Kelley, and good friends Bill and Elaine Small. Joe graduated from Ricker Classical Institute thanks to our great friend, Mary Jane Greenlaw helping him out along the way! He joined the US Army after high school and served 4 years in Germany, then 20 years in the National Guard. After returning from Germany, Joe married his sweetheart from Oakfield, Judy, started a family and a 42 year career with the Maine Dept. of Transporation. He logged many miles, met many people throughout the years and ate at every restaurant ever open! Joe and Judy enjoyed camping together in their retirement until Jesus called Judy home 7 years ago. Papa had a great love for his grandchildren next door and never missed a soccer game or a good supper. He also enjoyed his “getaways” in Bangor at the home of his son and daughter-in-law.

Joe was survived by his 2 sons, Alan and Pamela Anderson of Bangor, Adam and Eliza Anderson of Smryna; grandchildren, Zak, Nick, Lilly, Savannah, Isaiah, Isabella, Malachi and Joshua. He will be missed by his friends at the Smoki Hauler Snowmobile Club and special friends, Gary and Karen Stairs, Elaine Small, Katie Sherman and a very special sister-in-law and her husband, Jane and Wayne Lenentine. Joe has many more friends than listed here and a special place for them all. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Judy and an infant son, Troy.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26th at Bowers Funeral Home, 56 Sherman Street, Island Falls, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday with the Rev. Sterling Lawrence officiating. PLEASE OMIT FLOWERS DUE TO ALLERGIES. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Smoki Hauler Snowmobile Club, PO Box 331, Oakfield ME 04763 .
