In 1951, she met and married the love of her life, Thomas H. McKibbin. They undertook a perilous journey over the Donner Summit with failing brakes to be married in Virginia City, Nevada. Together, they raised five children. In her younger years, Carole was active in the Marysville Art Club, worked in the libraries at Yuba City High School and Franklin Elementary as a volunteer, and was an avid gardener. She devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was known for her outspokenness and strong opinions.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years in 2010. Shortly after, she moved to San Diego where she finished out her days with gardening and toile painting, still living independently, but closer to more of her children. She was also preceded in death earlier this year, by her younger sister, Marilyn Joyce Hageman.
Carole is survived by her children and grandchildren. She also had five great-grandchildren, and one more on the way. Other survivors include her cousin whom she considered her sister, and her niece, whom she considered another daughter. She will be missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at The First United Methodist Church, 3101 Colusa Hwy., Yuba City, where she was a member, on October 22, 2016 at 12 noon, followed by a reception at the church. All friends and those that would wish to remember her are welcome.
