Ostal Warren Layton was born December 30, 1923 in Dewey, Oklahoma where he lived until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps for WWII. He served honorably as a Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre. On June 22, 1942 Ostal married Lola Ruth Hayford Shepard in Seattle, Washington. They had five children: James Layton (Linda), Joyce Overholt, Jeannette Moore (dec) (Gary), Joan Melton (Loren) and Warren Layton (Janette). Ruth died May 21, 1981. In 1951 a co-worker, Hugh Armstrong invited him to Galilee Baptist Church where Ostal received Jesus as his Savior under Malcolm Lange. From that time forward he was a faithful child of God and a continual witness of Christ to all he met. Ostal worked in the aerospace industry for Boeing, Rocket Research, and Olin Corp and retired in 1985 Ostal married Marcella Hayford Grant in Oakhurst, California and July 18, 1984. They have been happily married for 32 years. In July of 1987 Ostal and Marce went to Juazerio del Norte, Brazil under Baptist Mid Missions as missionary assistants. Marce was a teacher of missionary children and Ostal as general maintenance person. He repaired cars, built buildings (churches, houses and storage buildings). They served there for three years, then returned to the United States to enjoy retirement. Retirement meant more time to work for church maintenance family and a little travel. Even in illness, Ostal was a positive, cheerful jokester and mentor to the younger generation. He was a loving husband and parent, a wonderful role model. Ostal is survived by four children, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
