Graveside services for John R. Colvin, age 89, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Wilder Cemetery in Ruston, LA. Dr. H. Andrew Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 12:00~1:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA.
John R. Colvin was born on March 28, 1927 in Ruston, LA to the union of Raymond and Angie (Spencer) Colvin, both of whom predeceased him as did his brother, Joe, and sister, Jeanette. He left this life on October 23 near his lifelong home of Ruston, living almost 90 years. John, known as “Farmer” to his family, loved them, his land, and his animals (dogs, cats, horses, and geese) and cared for all over the years. After attending Louisiana Tech, he served his country with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII and remained active in the country with the VFW Chapter. Upon retiring from the Post Office Dept. after 30 years, he and his wife, Margaret, owned an antique business located in a Victorian home which they had remodeled. He is survived by Margaret, his sister, Barbara Johnson (Rev. Herbert A.), daughter, Cathy Austin(John), son Jim Colvin (Kay), grandsons, Richard C. Austin (Marley), Brian A. Colvin, and granddaughter, Andrea Colvin-Winters. In addition, John had 2 grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. He had been a member of Temple Baptist and more recently Trinity United Methodist church. Special thanks to his caregivers in recent months: Ms. Erma Boyd and daughters.
