Terri Howell, 46, currently of Denton, TX, formerly of Springfield, MO, went home to be with the Lord, Easter Sunday, March 31, 2002.
After graduating from Glendale High School in Springfield, MO she attended the University of South Alabama and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Terri's life revolved around being a pilot since the age of 18. She loved to travel and there were not many places she hadn't been. She worked for Eastern Airlines for 11 years. She became a flight instructor at Stone Mountain-Britt Memorial Airport. She then was a First Officer on DC-3 for Academy Airlines involving freight delivery. She then became a First Officer for American Eagle working her way up to Captain on the Saab. In 1998 she received her final and favorite job as First Officer for American Airlines on the Fokker 100 Jet. Planes she flew included Cessna 152, Douglas DC-3, Jetstream 31, Saab 340B and the Fokker 100 Jet. She was a member of the Allied Pilots Association. She currently attended Denton Community Church.
Terri was preceded in death by her mother, Joann Koonce; her father, Harold Rains; her grandparents, Charlie and Josephine Mabe, Claude and Nannie Rains; Step-grandmother, Gladys Mabe; step-sister, Ruth Koonce; sisters-in-law Coleen and Amber Koonce; and other aunts and uncles.
Survivors include her much loved step-father, Don Koonce of Highlandville, who took care of her during her illness; sister, Debbie Peters of Pueblo, CO; and her daughters, Toni and Staci; and great-nephew, Jacob; sister, Vicki Maples and her husband, Brian and their children, Morgan, Bradley, and Ryleigh, all of Highlandville; step-sister, Marilyn Graham and her husband, Dave and their children; step-brothers, Roy Koonce, Ray Koonce and Jeff Koonce and their children; step-mother, Jean Rains and her children, Valerie and Darin; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends.
A special thanks is sent to the staff at The Arlington Cancer Center, especially to Dr. Dicke who was very special to Terri.
Private family services will be held with burial in Highlandville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a fund for pilots on disability in Terri's memory, which she benefited from. The fund will be set up with Empire Bank of Highlandville.
