During Fred’s younger days, he was a basketball referee. Fred worked for R J Reynolds Tobacco Company as a Sales Representative for 29 years. He was a member of the Rockingham Civitan Club where he served as President and Secretary of the club. While a member of the club he was honored to receive Civitan of the Year and Family of the Year awards. The Richmond Senior High School Marching Band was near and dear to Fred’s heart where he served as President of the Band Booster Club for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church since 1958 where he served as Deacon and Head Usher. He was an avid N. C. State Fan.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Rockingham with Dr. James Nelson and Rev. Patricia Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park.
Surviving, his wife of 62 years, Peggy D. Harris of the home; two daughters, Judy Harris of Rockingham and Donna Meadows with husband, Andy Meadows of New Bern, granddaughters Hannah Meadows and Madison Meadows, sisters Mary Harris and Frances Gettys with husband Minor Gettys, and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 P.M. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.
