Denis Carson Brooks passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016. He was 67 years old, born on December 30, 1948.
Denis was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann Covey Link, and his father Ardis B. Brooks, Sr., and his father Annual J. Link, mother-in-law Victoria R. Burns and also by his brothers, Ardis Brooks, Jr., and Larry Brooks.
Denis will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 46 years, Julia Yvonne Brooks, and his son and daughter-in-law, David and Mikki Sauer and grandchildren Madelyn and Carson Sauer, and also by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Chuck Ruppert, grandson and granddaughter-in-law Christopher and Kelsi Johnson, granddaughter Michelle Johnson and great-grandson Cayden Davis. He will also be missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jimmy Wells, and his brother and sister-in-law Duane and Cheryl Brooks, brother Randy Brooks and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins who surrounded him in love during his lifetime and in his last days with us.
Denis was born in Camp Hood, Texas. He and Yvonne have been residents of La Porte since 1979. Denis was an eight-year veteran of the United States Army and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended Temple Junior College in Temple, Texas. Denis worked in the petrochemical industry most of his life and retired from Valero in 2007, after serving them well for 29 years.
Denis enjoyed many hobbies and interests in his lifetime, chiefly among them being of service to his friends, family and community, a legacy he was proud to have passed on to his children. He was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, Patriot Guard, and a former President of the STAR Houston Chapter 221 Motorcycle Touring and Riding Association. He loved to ride his motorcycle, and he and Yvonne accomplished riding through every county in the state of Texas and also twenty of the United States. He also was greatly accomplished at building things, whether that be cars, motorcycles, wood projects, or computers. Denis also shared a great love of music with his wife and family and blessed many with his gift of song. His voice will be missed both at the microphone and at his grandchildren’s games, where his was one of the loudest cheers to be heard.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 4th, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, and the service honoring Denis’ life will be Wednesday, October 5th, at 10:00am, both held at Niday-Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions in Denis's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
