SIXTH REGIMENT MASSACHUSETTS VOLUNTEER INFANTRY
6th Mass mustered in for 90 days at the start of the war 1861 and entrained to Wash DC. They ran into a riot in Baltimore and suffered casualties - the first union soldiers to fall. They mustered out and returned to Mass. When the call came for 300,000 troops to serve for 9 months, the unit re-volunteered and mustered back in. They served in the defence of Suffolk Va where Edward was killed.
