PLEASE SEE NOTE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS BIO.
There are two different men named William Tipton (1756-1837) with the same birth and death years but different parents.
***************************************

We found information on William Tipton, Sr. (1754/1756 - 1837) in DESCENDANTS OF EDWARD TIPTON, a working file by Mary Lou Cook, updated 23 December 2017. She shares this file to help Tipton descendants in their research. The stone at this gravesite closely matches Mary Lou Cook's research.

Edward, Jonathan, William, Mordacia, and WILLIAM SR. TIPTON are listed in the same order on this stone with the same dates or close to the dates as Mary Lou Cook has listed in her working file:
Edward, the father, had Jonathan;
Jonathan had William;
William had Mordecai;
Mordecai had WILLIAM TIPTON, SR. (1854-1837)

****************************************
The list of names on the stone at the gravesite looks to be in order from father to son. The above file by Mary Lou Cook, lists the second name through the sixth name on this stone as father to son. We can presume that William Tipton, Sr. (1756-1837) was the father of Mitchell Tipton (1784-1853). That is not proof, but it may be a good place to start looking for Mitchell Tipton's (1784-1853) father.
******************************************
NOTE: There is another William Tipton (1756-1837) buried in Kentucky. That William Tipton was the son of John and Mary Martha (Murray) Tipton according to his Find A Grave memorial. These two William Tiptons may be second cousins.
