Mrs. A. Judd Cates Died.

Mrs. Elizabeth Cates, wife of Judd Cates, died Saturday morning March 14th, at her home, south of Sims. Mrs. Cates had been in ill health for about two years but her condition was not thought serious. She was stricken suddenly Friday morning while working in her garden and never regained consciousness before her death at ten thirty P.M. the following morning.

The funeral services were held in Sims at the General Baptist Church on Monday afternoon. The burial was in the Dickeyville cemetery.

Was the daughter of Alonzo and Polly Withrow, deceased. She was born Jan. 14, 1862, aged 69 years and two months. She was united in marriage to Emiel Santschi, of Carlyle, in 1881. He was drowned in August of the same year. To this union one son was born Emiel Santschi, now of River Rouge, Mich.

In November 1886 she was united in marriage to A.J. Cates, Wayne City. To this union seven children were born, two dying in infancy. In early life she was converted never affiliating with any church but always believe in the General Baptist.

She leaves to mourn her loss six [sic] children, namely; Emiel Santschi, River Rouge, Mich., Ethel Cates, at home, Gertie Tibbs, Cisne, Mrs. Louvina [Lovenia] Jane Babbs, Mansfield, Ohio, Mrs. Ardina White, Detroit, Mich., Paul Cates, East Alton, Mrs. Dorothy Henson, Sims, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous relatives and friends.
