He was a retired refrigeration technician for Exel in Manteno. After retirement he had worked for Hospice of Kankakee Valley and Busse and Rieck. He was a 1962 graduate of St. Anne High School and had attended Kankakee Community College. He enjoyed traveling, rescuing animals, was a paraplane pilot, he had owned and showed classic cars, and always helped anyone in need. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he had served on the finance committee, was an usher, a member of St. Joseph Ministry, and also a trustee. He was a four and a half year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the Marine Corps League. He was past commander and adjutant of the St. George American Legion Post 1164. Allen was also a past volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Bourbonnais Rural Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Leann Gehm and Robert Lopez of Carbondale; and Denise and Duke Edwards of Bourbonnais; two granddaughters, Kennedy and Rylie; and one sister Susan Langdoc of Kankakee. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Carol.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Clancy- Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais where a funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Rev. Karl Koeppen will officiate. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
