Alma E. "Gene" Bainbridge
Gene Bainbridge, 61, of Boise and Payette went to be with the Lord on Sunday Feb. 18, 1996 in Boise.
Gene was born Dec. 24, 1934, at Vale, Ore. to Jack and Naomi Bainbridge. The house had a dirt floor but his mother was quick to add, it was the cleanest dirt floor in the country.
In 1953, after graduating from Payette High School, Gene married Beverly McGary at Winnemucca, Nev. Gene and Beverly had four sons.
After graduation Gene worked for many years in the family-owned Payette Food Center. He also worked as a real estate and insurance agent with his father-in-law in Home Loan & Realty Co. brokerage in Payette.
After this he began a career with Albertsons and was a store director in Emmett, Boise and Nampa after a short stint in the Lewiston/Clarkston area and a couple of years in Spokane, Wash. Gene was very proud of the many young persons he hired and trained during his Food Center and Albertsons years. His work ethic attention to detail and self-pride were impressive. He was at times a difficult taskmaster but was held in high regard by most of his former employees and associates. A number of current Albertsons store directors were originally hired by Gene as box-boys including Jim Johnson in Payette and Ivan Mussell in Ontario, Ore. Gene retired from Albertsons in 1990 and began a new career working with his two sons in the family appraisal business in Nampa and Payette.
Gene was a current member of the Nampa Elks Lodge and was a past member of the Payette JayCees, Payette Chamber of Commerce, Payette Lions Club, Payette Kiwanis Club and the National Association of Realtors. Gene was a past president of the Payette Merchants Association and was a retired captain from the Idaho National Guard.
Gene loved his family, golf and fishing, and betting on football games.
Gene is survived by his wife Beverly, his son and daughter-in-law Brent and Julie and granddaughters, Kendra and Jordan, Jamie, his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sandy and granddaughters, Brooke, Lynne and Brittany Baye, a brother and sister-in-law Darrell and Donna Bainbridge of Payette, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Billie McGary of Payette, a sister-in-law, Bonnie McGary-Oliver of Payette, a sister-in-law Shirley Bainbridge of Boise, several nieces and nephews, and many special friends in Heaven. Gene joins his son, James, an infant son, "Little Joe", his parents, Jack and Naomi, and his brother, Jake.
We will see you soon, Dad.
At Gene's request, no services are scheduled. A memorial gathering for family and friends is being planned for a later time.
