Roman Lee Bethke Jr., was born in this world on February 22, 1941, in the little red house in Ander, Texas, to Allene and the late Roman Bethke. He became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on April 4, 1941 and affirmed his faith through the Rite of Confirmation on June 6, 1954, both at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ander.

Roman Lee attended Goliad High School and was proud to be a Tiger! He was an avid hunter, loved horses and working cattle. Most people would call him “Ole Cowboy.”

After an eventful 38 years, he came by the old green house in Ander to take his godson, Jon, fishing and couldn’t leave the girls behind. He finally married Datrell “June” Taylor Adickes and her brood on September 19, 1980, and became an instant family man.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roman Bethke; and brother, William Bethke.

Roman Lee lived his life fully and with his whole heart. He always had a smile, firm hand shake, pat on the back and for the ladies, a big hug and kiss! Through the years, he enjoyed playing golf, helping with fish fries and participating with his son and friends in the Bar-b-que cook-offs.

Roman Lee and June were often called upon to lead the Grand March at weddings for friends and family and in doing so, blessed so many new beginnings. Much like the Grand March, life weaves and winds its way until two hearts are in the center, surrounded by those they love, ready to take the next step in life. As Roman Lee takes his last step to be home with our Lord Christ Jesus, he will be surrounded by his family and friends with love to celebrate his eternal life in heaven.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 , 2016 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ander.
