Mother of Mrs. Peter Leroy Passes Away Here Friday
Rites for Aged Woman Held Sunday at Marine, Her Former Home
Known and beloved by a great many friends here despite her short residence in Carlinville, Mrs. Mary Ellen Manville, mother of Mrs. Peter Leroy of this city, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday morning. She was discovered at about 8:30 o'clock by her daughter who came to her bedside at the usual hour to bring her her breakfast. She had probably been dead about two hours.
In failing health for a number of years, Mrs. Manville had been residing with her children, and in July came to Carlinville to make her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy on North Plum street. She had been confined to a wheel chair or bed for the past several years, her invalidism resulting from an illness of pneumonia four years ago and a broken hip sustained two years ago. Despite her ill health, Mrs. Manville had remained cheerful and in good spirits. She enjoyed the visits of friends and neighbors, and occupied a good part of her time in reading. Although she was 86 years of age, Mrs. Manville read without the aid of eye glasses, and greatly enjoyed the good books brought her by her friends.
Left to mourn her departure are six children, Mrs. Eva Bracy, Pana; Mrs. Mary McIntyre, Edwardsville; Mrs. Aley Leroy, Carlinville; Melvin Manville, Honolulu, T.H.; and Fred and Lester Manville, Marine; three sisters, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Seven children preceded Mrs. Manville in death.
Funeral rites were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Danderman Funeral Home, Marine, with Rev. Roy Stocks, evangelical minister, in charge. Burial was in Geiger cemetery, Marine, with nephews serving as pallbearers.
