Boyle's Letter Relates Experiences In Sweden

(Editor's Note: The following is a letter from Larry Boyle of Chestnut Ridge FFA who is spending three months on a host farm in Sweden as a participant in the International FFA Work Experience program. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Boyle of Pavia.)
I'm fine and have been working hard. I have been getting in quite a few hours and have been visiting a number of other farms.
Last week I gave a slide presentation to the 4-H leadership training conference in Linkoping.
I visited two of the other boys who are also staying in Sweden. They are on a swine farm in the northern part of Sweden.
Today I visited a 100-cow dairy farm and was surprised to see parlor milking system.
I saw a Swedish football game and decided that I like the American football better.
I have been busy baling hay, folling silo, cleaning the barn and many other jobs. I am getting paid from $75 to $100 a month. I am keeping accurate record and have worked 225 hours.
The weather here hasn't been too good for the past week as we have had a lot of rain.
I am very much looking forward to the end of this month. Friday, Saturday and Sunday two of the other boys here and myself are going to Oslo, Norway for a tour. The boys are Stan Bucher of Pennsylvania and Pete Snow of Michigan. Then on the 28th I leave on my two-week tour of Germany, Denmark, Holland and Sweden. I am sure everyone is looking forward to this.
On Thursday July 16 I am planning on a phone call to my sister Shirley Howsare. This will give me a chance to see how things are going at home and hear a familiar voice. The program is now one-third over, and it seems as though time is going very fast. After the tour, the summer is almost over.
I am looking forward to the beginning of school and the national FFA convention in Kansas City. I have been gone from home for 34 days and will be home in 64 days.
Well, I'll close for now. See you all soon.

Sincerely, Larry Boyle - Bedford Gazette, 24 July 1970
