THIS - Hiram B. Cawthon (in this memorial)
Parents are;
Pleasant and Rachel Angeline (Parker) Cawthon. He is attached incorrectly to many family trees as son of David and Matilda (Duke) Cawthon.

(Click Link) for 1st cousin Hiram B. Cawthon who actually is the Son of David and Matilda (Duke) Cawthon.

Both Hiram's are 1st cousins to each other. Both of their fathers are brothers who each had a son named Hiram B. around the same time (proven in records)

Pleasant J. Cawthon and David Cawthon are brothers. They are sons of James L. and Sarah (Smith) Cawthon. EACH Son, Pleasant and David BOTH had a son named Hiram B. which were both born around the same time. If you look through records instead of just attaching the other Hiram to your tree, you can see THIS Hiram CLEARLY in the household with HIS parents Pleasant and Rachel (Parker) Cawthon, and later marrying Rosa (Smith) in (1902) and then even later, (1916) marrying Mrs. Louise (Yates) Johnson. You can also CLEARLY see his cousin Hiram B. in the household with HIS parents, David and Matilda (Duke) Cawthon and later marrying Julia (Williams).

THIS Hiram's parents are Rachel Angeline (Parker) Cawthon, and Pleasant Cawthon. His parents were married on the 12th of January 1853, in Cannon County Tennessee.

On 26 November 1878, Hiram's mother Rachel filed for divorce from his father Pleasant. On 2 May 1879, the court ruled there was no proof in the evidence. The attached photo about the divorce was taken by me in the actual records office in the actual county where I went looking for Hiram and my family.

As his parents were divorced by the time he was 5 years old, per 1880 Census that showed his mother's marital status as "divorced", and his father, living in his parent's household with his marital status listed as "divorced", as well. Also important to note, in that census two of the children (Burt and Sarah) were living with their father and grandparents.

Hiram gets confused in many family trees, with Hiram Britton Cawthon that was married to Julia Williams and whom passed away in 1956. THAT Hiram's parents are David, and Matilda (Duke) Cawthon. What is even more confusing is David Cawthon is brother to Hiram's father Pleasant. Both brothers had sons named Hiram. THIS Hiram Cawthon is my Great Grandfather. I have been DNA tested and matched with his parents Rachel Angeline (Parker) Cawthon, and Pleasant Cawthon. THIS Hiram DID NOT pass away in 1956. He is my mother's grandfather and she remembers him well and knows for a fact he passed away before that.

Hiram is my Great Grandfather. My Grandpa Willie Cawthon is the only known biological child of Hiram. Willie's mother is Hiram's first wife, Rosa (Smith) Thompson. Hiram was born in Tennessee, moved his first family including son Willie Lee to Louisiana, back to Tennessee, and later moved to Elm Street in Ohio with 2nd wife and her three children to be near his only child, my Grandpa Willie. A year after 2nd wife Louise (Yates) Johnson passed away in 1929, THIS Hiram went to jail for slashing only child Willie's throat over my Grandma Louise (Varwig) Cawthon. See actual newspaper clipping attached.

This Hiram's d. year is still being researched. As the last name is spelled incorrectly, and many different ways, and THIS Hiram moved around ALOT, it is very hard finding exact death year. I will find him though. His father Pleasant Cawthon (Pleas) in many records is also inaccurately reported on family trees as having died before the 1880 census. Most likely because Rachel is shown in the household with no husband. THAT also is incorrect. He was merely divorced and moved back in with his parents and two of the children. The 1880 census CLEARLY shows that. It also shows Hiram's mother Rachel living with the other children, including THIS Hiram in the household with the census showing her as divorced as well. That mean Pleasant lived PAST 1880 and I will hopefully find him as well.

Cawthon is spelled SO MANY different ways. "Cawthorn, Cawtham, Cawthorne, Cawton, Cawthan, etc.,

After marrying Louise (Yates) (Johnson) Cawthon, in 1916, The 1920 Census shows both he, Louise, and her three children (Johnson) living in Tullahoma Tennessee. Later, they moved to Toledo Ohio, to be near Hiram's only known biological child-
Willie Lee Cawthon

Louise passed away in 1929. Her Sons both also passed away in Ohio. William Fred Johnson in Toledo 1961, and James Polk Johnson at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1950. James is buried next to his Mother. They both have unmarked plots.Their Sister Eunice either did not move to Toledo with them, or moved back to Tennessee where she married, and had a family.
