Dorthea Pearl Baysinger, 88, of Arkansas City passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the South Central Kansas Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 18 at the Rest Haven Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. Visitation with family present will be held on Monday, October 17 from 5-7 P.M. at the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City – 906 W. Kansas Arkansas City, KS 67005. Memorial contributions can be made to the Arkansas City Senior Center and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Dorthea Pearl (Starks) Baysinger was born on March 27, 1928 in Shidler, OK to proud parents Samuel Anson and Rebecca Maude (Blankenship) Starks. On August 6, 1944 in Emporia, KS Dorthea was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Marlin Wayne Baysinger. Dorthea loved being involved in her community as well as taking care of her family: she was involved in the Lions Club and the Nazarene Church of Arkansas City. Dorthea also enjoyed going to family sporting events and watching football games, her favorite team was the Kansas City Chiefs. She loved to fish, read, make ceramics, play cards and dice, and to bowl. She was very passionate about sewing and made it a big part of her life, she grew prize winning African Violets, and was also considered the best baker in the family. More than anything else, Dorthea loved being with her family and making them smile.

Survivors include: daughter Linda Johnson and husband Merlin of Ft. Dodge, IA; daughter Lois Humble of Ponca City, OK; daughter Marlena Sankey of Arkansas City, KS; son Jerry Don Baysinger and wife Teresa of Anthony, KS. Grandchildren: Chris, Angela, Melinda, Joe, Tina, Eric, Steven, Lisa, and Emily, and 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death is her husband M. Wayne, her parents, son Harley Wayne Baysinger, and 4 siblings and 1 grandchild.

Her obituary says she is buried in Rest Haven Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. and she has a marker there but the cemetery said she isn't buried there.
