Beatrice Marcell Lane

May 15, 1927 - October 8, 2016
Beatrice Marcell Lane, and her twin Lindell, were born May 15th, 1927 in Bertram, Texas to John B. and Myrtle (Williams) Stewart and departed on October 8, 2016 at Central Washington Hospital, Wenatchee, Wash., surrounded by her loving family.

Her early life was reminiscent of the great Steinbeck novel, The Grapes of Wrath. When she was only 5 years old the family of seven traveled from their share cropping cotton fields in Texas to California, looking for a better life. Once there, they began the transient life of the itinerant farm laborer moving up and down the state, living in tents with dirt floors and harvesting crops that belonged to others. She told us many times how her mother, after working all day in the fields, would wash, starch and iron their pillow cases to remind them each night as they lay down their heads, that they were better than their circumstances.

As she reached her teen years Marcell worked too, finding employment in a local café. It is there she met the love of her life Si. After a 6 month courtship they married on December 17, 1943. They were married for 60 years when Si passed away on April 5, 2004.

During her lifetime Marcell worked a variety of jobs from waitressing to defense plants, Apple packing to day care and also as a baker but none of these were as important to her as the job of raising her family. Trecia, Tim and Jo, her children, were her pride and joy. She loved playing with them, sewing for them and making sure that they were respectfully of others. She lived her life as an example. She was a woman of tremendous faith and tried to treat others as she wanted to be treated.

Marcell is survived by two daughters; Trecia (Terry) Johnson, of Monroe, Wash., Jo (Dale) Crossland, of Brewster, Wash., granddaughters; Marika (Avi) Finkel, Atticus and Augustus of Seattle; Stacey (Joe) House, Joseph and Shelby of Elma, Wash., Dione Crossland, Riverside, Wash., Debby(Mike) Moore, Brewster, Wash., and grandson Duane (Lori) Savage of Elma, Wash., and Zach and Morgan of Wenatchee. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, son Tim, her parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. They are happily reunited now.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Barnes Chapel in Brewster with interment at the Locust Grove cemetery immediately following.
