Mrs. Bates, Clem Route, Is Buried At Poplar Springs

Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Bates, 63-year-old resident of Route 1, Clem, was buried Sunday afternoon in the church cemetery after funeral services at Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church. Elders Coot and Bruce Robinson officiated.

Mrs. Bates died Friday afternoon in a Carrollton hospital after a week's illness. She was born in Alabama Nov. 20, 1896. She joined the Poplar Springs church about 30 years ago but was a member at Hopewell at the time of her death.

Surviving are her husband of 39 years, James William Bates; six sons, Otis of Carrollton, Route 3; Ambros of LaGrange, Coy of Atlanta, Roy and William of Clem and Cpl. Earl Bates, U.S. Army, Germany; four daughters, Mrs. Ozell Huckeba of Rome, Mrs. Bonnie Huckeba and Mrs. Clyde Bass of LaGrange and Mrs. Shirley Duke of Albany. A son, Rhuice, died in 1935.

She also leaves two brothers, Tommie and Frankie Dutton, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Parker and Mrs. Louella Seagars, all of Hartselle, Ala.
