She was born July 1, 1914, northeast of Arapahoe to Henry and Bertha (Hinz) Helms. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School.
On Sept. 17, 1933, she married Reinhold Monter. They made their home on a farm site 8 ½ miles northeast of Arapahoe. He preceded her in death in 1985, and she moved to Elwood that same year.
She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a 4-H leader and member of a County Extension Club.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Lowell and Kurt; two sisters, Bertha Evers and Edna Downing; and a grandson, Stuart Magorian.
Survivors include a son, Neal and wife, Nancy Monter of Johnson Lake; four daughters, Phyllis and husband, Bob Remmenga of Elwood, Janice and husband, William Magorian of Liberty, Miss., Marlene and husband, Les Haussler of Golden, Colo., and Judith and husband, Holger Beckmann of Kirkwood, Miss.; three brothers, Ed and wife, Grace Helms and Clarence and wife, Lois Helms all of Arapahoe and Henry and wife, Doris Helms of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Loreen Flicker of Pocatello, Idaho, Ruth McGhghy of Warsaw, Miss., and Lucilla and husband, Roscoe Carr of North Platte; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood with the Rev. Jeff Ernstmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery northeast of Arapahoe.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood.
