Betty Alley Soyars, 79, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Countryside Manor.

Funeral service for Mrs. Soyars will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, at First Baptist Church in Summerfield. Burial will follow in Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the service time.

A Guilford County native, Mrs. Soyars was born on June 5, 1937, the daughter of the late Thomas and Eliza Purgason Alley. She attended First Baptist Church of Summerfield, was well-known for her strawberry shortcake and loved golfing and bowling. For many years she drove a school bus in Summerfield. The kids loved her and she loved her bus riders. Special times for her were those spent with children, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James R. Soyars, Sr. in 2009.

Surviving are her children James Robert ' Robbie' Soyars, Jr. of Summerfield, Deborah Soyars Avant (Donnie) of Stokesdale, and John Thomas Soyars of Summerfield; brothers Jim Alley, Melvin Alley (JoAnn), and Bobby Alley (Carolyn) all of Summerfield; and grandchildren Kimberley Avant, Lauren Soyars and Ryan Soyars.
